Me Monster

    When my eyes are off of myself others eyes turn to God. 

   Our flesh steals the testimony of God. It consumes our conversations and our thoughts. It is the monster inside us battling for more of us and less of Him.

Romans 7:14-25

    I see it in myself when my conversations are all about me and not of what God is doing in me. When I concern myself with who is reading my writings and I forget the motive behind writing them….

    When I get frustrated when ministry is not going at my pace….

    The list goes on. 

    These past few days have been my selfish days of letting the “Me Monster” win. I have been stressed and frustrated at letting the little silly things build up inside.

But, today I am reading this: 

Galatians 5:1
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves
be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

       I’ll say it again, when my eyes are off of myself others eyes turn to God.

Believers have a testimony that our flesh wants to silence. But the verse above tells us we don’t have to live by the flesh anymore because we have Christ living in us, working in us, and transforming us everyday.

Here we are in this moment with our choice before us:

  3. Oh, the “me monster”! I believer we are (all of us) overcome by this! I am. Often. But I appreciate your exhortation to refocus on Christ in us!

    I think of the verse, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30 NASB and Corrie Ten Boom’s statement, ” It’s not my ability, but my response to God’s ability, that counts.” when I need to defeat the “me monster”.

    Thanks for being real, Hyla. I think we need to pray for each other, and our battle with ourselves!

  7. We should use our freedom as an opportunity to serve each other with Love. It is our responsibility to act. Hearing the truth and knowing the truth will set us free. We must stand firm in our faith and be strong. We should not place the burden on others that we are not willing to put on ourselves.

    Paul is warning us in Galatians 5:1 that we shouldn’t turn away from the Gospel or we will be cut off from salvation. Christ has set us free from the Jewish requirements and regulations but not from the submission to Gods moral standards.

    We do have a choice to love others and share the Gospel, pointing others towards God. Galatians 5:1 is a powerful statement. Thank you for pointing me to what God has to say in that verse. Great post.

  9. I have been there my friend… many times. SO many times. Round and round the MeMonster goes…

    Thank you for this truth and reminder, my friend. When we pour our thoughts through Him, He sifts the selfish motives and breaks us free of ourselves, to see and trust His Purpose.
