Love Letters To God

I’ve experienced:

Loss

Regret

Hurt

Victories

and Love

just like anyone else.

Tears stream down my face as I as read through my old prayer journals and see how faithful God has been throughout my life.

I started writing letters to God when I was fifteen; I’m twenty-five now. As the years went on I started really getting into the prayer journals; I started decorating mine or buying really nice ones. I would keep one on me that way if I would get alone time I could just take it out and write. This is how I find time with God.

As the ink hits the paper so my heart opens to him. This is where I meet him for quiet time. This is how I am still before him. I discover things that have been on my heart that I didn’t know where there until I would write them down. Writing out prayers has helped me think out all the insecurities I had then and have now. I as continue so seek him he will be forever faithful. He is always on the other end waiting for his letter.

  1. I am a huge writer as well. I journal scripture and notes every day that really speak to me and plan on writing more. That is so sweet you write love letters to him, talk about walking in spirit!

    • There are some writing gs I don’t even post. I keep them private. I beleive just because I blog it doesn’t mean I can’t keep a few special writings for me.

  2. I’ve never been disciplined enough to journal. The idea is good but it hasn’t worked for me yet. We start out our mornings together, God and me. A cup of coffee and my chronological reading for that day. I’m in a FB group where we discuss our findings from each reading. I love what God shows me in His word and through these other believers. A great way to start my day with Him and include Him in it all day long!

  3. Jesus prompted me to begin prayer journaling about five years ago. Through that process He has drawn me closer to Him and opened broken places in my heart that needed His healing. As you put it, “I discover things that have been on my heart that I didn’t know where there until I would write them down.” Beautiful post! I am visiting for the first time from Christian Women Bloggers Unite.

  4. This is fantastic. I too enjoy writing out my prayers to God. Lately I have been a bit lazy about it using the excuse that there is not enough time to write out the lengthy prayers I used to write before adding out second child (now 1 year old). I like that you bring your prayer journal with you so you can use it whenever you have a moment. It inspires me and reminds me that not all prayers need to be lengthy. Thank you for writing this!

  6. I spend time with him in prayer, scripture, community and personal worship. Your blog made me curious about your prayer journey. Many times a prayer journal can be personal, but it also might be interesting to self-publish it and show how God has worked in your life. The idea just popped in my mind as I was reading. Many journals have been published and found amazing stories.

  7. Hi Hyla! I am a big lover of silence. I try to practice prayer of the quiet each day, although some days I don’t find the time. I use a journal here and there, nothing too consistent. I was just thinking it might be time to write in a journal again, so your post is a little confirmation of that.
    So nice to meet you!

  8. I find writing prayers down so helps me focus on what I am saying to God, I really need to get into the habit of doing it more often because when I do it really blesses me. Although I guess my blog is kind of an extension of that these days.

  9. This is so beautiful. I love to journal as well! I also really love reading the Bible, praying and worshipping with my baby. Sometimes it’s hard to find time “alone” so I just have him join in. 🙂

  10. I love being able to spend time with God alone in the mornings before Baby boy gets up! I found a great website – Doorposts – where they have 30 day devotionals for busy moms! I love it! It goes in depth but doesn’t take too long each day!

  12. I love writing my letters to God. I like knowing that I have the record to go back to and I am really able to see how He works throughout my life. It is always amazing to me to see how God answers the prayers I pour out to Him in ways I never would have fathomed.

  13. I used to journal quite a bit too, and I found it really deepened my relationship with God! As a young mom, it helped my prayer time stay focused too. I’ve gotten away from the habit in recent years, but I would love to get back to it!

  14. I usually write down a few things, because it’s nice to look back on and see how much has changed, how God is faithful (even when I’m not).

  15. Love this! I love keeping a prayer journal. My favorite thing is just carrying my bible and a notebook and writing whenever I feel the urge! I love journaling in my bible, too.

  16. I’ve always admired those who can journal regularly. I reserve writing for those times when there is deep turmoil inside me and I cannot get it out. However, I make sure to preserve these things and it is so inspiring to see how far I’ve come since then.

  17. I also wrote several letters to God especially during troubled times. I find it very intimate and I felt much better after pouring out my heart with words about how I feel. By the way, your penmanship is lovely!
