Mirror mirror on the wall whose the fairest of them all?

Walking in a high school or middle school  bathroom I see girls putting on make up, and getting their hair ready to face the cruel world once again. But what I’m hearing is what aches my heart. At least every one of those girls have something to complain about whether it be what their wearing, their hair, their make up, or anything they can think of at the time. Who tells us to think like that? Even adults do it too. Saying what we don’t like in the mirror only cuts down our self-esteem this then can lead to other life threatening things (eating disorders, cutting, etc.) I have written a few things that have helped me over the years as a teenage girl who did struggle with image. Then though, I didn’t realize what God has to say about me is the only thing that matters. Think of the most beautiful flower you’ve ever seen. Now think of God the creator who made that flower, those stars, the sun resting perfectly behind the mountains, the perfect fields that makes you want to run through them barefoot. The God who makes us stand in silence as we look at His creation  created  us (Genesis 1:27). I never did put it this way, but it’s true  when we tell God what we don’t like what we see when we look in the mirror we’re telling Him He had made a mistake. Do you believe He made a mistake when He created you? I sure hope your answer is no. God doesn’t drop the paint brush and never will; He’s perfect and I believe we all forget that sometimes. I have written a few exercises that I know people have used to remind and help themselves that they truly are created in Gods image.

***Before starting these exercises throw away anything that can harm your life (blades, pills, toxins)***

Exercise 1: Write this verse on your mirror or a sticky note by your mirror Psalm 139:13-14 “For you have created me in my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” Make sure its a mirror you use everyday. Let this verse become a prayer between you and God.

Exercise 2: When you look in the mirror pick at least one good thing about yourself. It could be about your appearance or personality.

Exercise 3: This one is a tricky one because when you’re doing this one your saying your satisfied with what you see. Smile in the mirror even if you don’t want to before you leave. Remember God doesn’t drop the paint brush.

Believe it or not this poem was one of the hardest for me to write. It was actually supposed to be written a month ago. But I never really had the time to sit down and do it. With a lot of studying, looking up verses and putting in my own experiences I had finally come up with this poem. It’s about adoption. In it I’m comparing human adoption with God adopting us. With adopting it requires: sacrifice, a home, paper work, provision, teaching, leading and protection.  God wants to meet us in these ways too. So do you accept it?

There is only one whose  love is  unconditional   Psalm 193:15-16

Real and untraditional

He’s like a father who keeps us on track              (Father) Hebrews 12:9

So our character isn’t lacked

His name protects us from all above             (Guardian) Romans 8:38-39

Fearless and strong only because of love

Giving us plants, animals and seasons is how He provides   Matt 6:26-34

Reassuring He’ll never leave our side                    Hebrews 13:5

He gave all that He could give                               Hebrews 10:14

So that we may live                                                John 3:16-17

He prepared His heart and home to be shared     John 14:2

Only because He really cared

It’s all permanent and signed                                 Isaiah 49:13-18

You choose to be defined

You see God adopts us too

But its all up to you                                                 Ephesians 1:4-5

Romans 8:15

“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves so that you live in fear again; rather the spirit you received brought your adoption to son ship and by Him we cry “Abba Father”

My Adoption Story

My Mom’s Story

Sayanara Heartache

I frown as I finish signing my name on the pain contract

Knowing how my heart will react

Prolonging foolish decisions

Unerased revisions

Speechless I sit in my shame

Knowing who to blame

I run and run and run

Saying sayanara to the foolish things I’ve done

It’s time to redeem my spirit

Heartache just isn’t gonna do it

Embrace Life

Skip don’t walk

Color the pavement with chalk

Dance in the rain

Be unconscious of pain

Spin and sing

Close your eyes when you swing

Run around barefoot

Don’t stay put

Have sweet dreams

Finish each day with ice cream

Laugh, even if no else understands

Draw in the sand

Pick flowers

Climb your highest towers

Get memorable scars

Gaze at the stars

Wear your hair down

Love, because no one stays around

Eat because you like the taste

Don’t let your time go to waste

                                                                      -Mihaela Chamberlain

This is probably one of my favorites. 3/3/12

Good Day

driving away

I’m just gonna shake off your crude comments

And ignore your intents

Sticks and stones

My emotions are unknown

I put on my shades and keep walking with my head held high

You wont make me cry

The suns out and my bills are payed for

I cast all my cares out the door

I put the key in the ignition

Ready to set out for my mission

I’m not gonna become the worlds prey

For God made a good day.

Fire

“There is something beautiful about fire. Maybe it’s how fast one flame spreads taking the life of what was once forever, now knowing there is no turning back? Or maybe it’s the colors that make you wonder how orange, red and yellow can be in one flame? Maybe its the lingering smell that sinks into your clothes? As I stare at my handy work watching the wood burn I sit in silence taking in the beauty of fire.”

Have you ever had a hard time telling people who you are? For example say your name is Jim. You say “Hi my name is Jim” Then the other person says “No your Joe” So you tell them again and they keep on telling you your Joe. So you think to yourself how do I tell them I’m Jim? Now it’s a big deal, because if they don’t believe your Jim you lose who you are. It’s not the situation where the  annoying kid  says your Joe to get on your nerves. It’s the situation when the  person says your Joe so you don’t get your reservations for dinner. Are you tracking with me?  You see that’s how I think God feels in this story. The Israelites tell Him He’s not God by worshiping the Baals and God says “No I am God” by using Elijah on Mount Carmel. So now your thinking what does the quote on top have anything to do with the Bible? Everything. As we look into the Old Testament in 1 Kings 18:16-39 it tells us the story of how powerful God is. In the beginning of the story Elijah Ahab calls him a troubler of Israel (vs.16) because he came to show them that God is the one and only God (read on…) They than agreed with Elijah on having a burnt offering contest. They would both prepare an offering, but not light the fire (vs.22-24) The Israelites prepared their sacrifice and called on the name of Baal, but no fire came, not even a spark. Elijah began to mock them and have them shout louder “Perhaps he is deep in thought” (vs. 27). They then began cutting themselves and screaming louder (vs. 26-28) Elijah then built his altar, but had the Israelites put jars full of water on top of his offering. Elijah prayed to God asking Him to reveal Himself to the people so that they may know that He is God. Close your eyes and imagine wood soaked in water; now imagine it bursting into flames. That’s what God did that day. He revealed Himself through fire, and the Israelites then believed (vs.30- 39).
